The third Copernicus Sentinel-1 satellite, Sentinel-1C, has embarked on its mission to advance Earth observation capabilities. Launched aboard a Vega-C rocket from Europe’s Spaceport in French Guiana, the satellite took flight on 5 December 2024 at 22:20 CET (18:20 local time). This milestone extends the legacy of the Sentinel-1 program, providing essential radar imagery to monitor our planet's changing environment.

The Sundhnukur volcanic hill and its associated crater row have long been recognized as a hotbed for localized volcanic activity. Recently, this geologically dynamic region has made headlines for hosting one of the largest lava eruptions seen in years.

Volcanoes have always captivated us with their raw power and beauty, and the Pacaya and Arenal volcanoes are no exception. These geological wonders, located in Central America, are prime examples of Strombolian activity—characterized by explosive eruptions that produce incandescent volcanic bombs and slow lava flows.

Following nearly two decades of quiet, Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki—a volcano on the Indonesian island of Flores—began erupting again in December 2023. An especially intense period of activity in November 2024 included several explosive eruptions that generated deadly pyroclastic flows, darkened the landscape with ashfall, and lofted soaring ash plumes that disrupted air travel.
